Space Sculptors, Jurong

Design doesn’t just fill a room—it defines it through sculpted volumes. Within the glass-enclosed floor plan of this modern bungalow, the challenge was to prevent the "open concept" from becoming a vacuum of homogeneity. Drawing inspiration from the structural clarity of the Barcelona Pavilion, the strategy uses three functional interventions to act as sculptors of space.

The first intervention—a TV console and entry cabinet—uses shifting heights to veil the interior, creating a layered entry experience that signals the home’s prestige. Poetic details, such as a brass light-reflector and a meticulously shaped grommet, evoke a dialogue with nature and art. The second sculpture, a full-height divider, delineates the dining and living zones. Its vertical fabric panels suggest the fluid imagery of a waterfall, integrating acoustic performance with an artful structural expression that leaves the travertine floor untouched.

The final addition—a shelf at the garden threshold—approximates the qualities of a balcony. This "space within a space" provides a corner of introversion, anchoring the piano while framing the surrounding greenery. Together, these three cabinetry volumes convert a typical pavilion into a dynamic architectural landscape, imbuing the home with originality and a profound sense of place.
