An Ample House, Eaton Place

True luxury is the discipline of knowing what is enough. In a market driven by the impulse to "maximize" every square inch of a plot, An Ample House stands as a rare act of restraint. The design reflects a personal commitment to a permanent home—one built for daily enjoyment.

The reconstruction of this semi-detached house focuses on three values: privacy, adequacy, and permanence. Instead of building to the maximum allowable floor area to inflate the property's market value, the owner prioritized the quality of light and air. By stepping the house away from the shared party wall, we introduced a continuous skylight that animates the living spaces with the sun’s daily passage.

While the street-facing elevation is shielded for privacy, the rear unfolds into a series of hidden, open-to-sky terraces that harvest prevailing winds. On the upper levels, a private family deck fronts a monumental seven-meter-high feature wall; its vast proportions evoke a sense of stillness and immensity. By choosing "less" in terms of square footage, the design gains an abundance of sky, wind, and clouds. An Ample House proves that a home is truly ample when it prioritizes the experience of living over the logic of the commodity.
