Meandering Light, Orchard Bel-Air

Luxury, in its most refined form, is an act of subtraction. Situated along Orchard Boulevard, this 300-square-meter residence was reimagined by consolidating four bedrooms into a more expansive, two-suite layout. Our approach moved away from conventional opulence, focusing instead on the fundamental interplay of light, volume, and materiality.

By removing a central corridor, we introduced a "boulevard of daylight" that edges the apartment, lined in fabric that evokes the subtle texture of rice paper. Within this luminous spine, guest quarters and storage are concealed behind seamless planes, allowing the architecture to remain undisturbed. A continuous datum line at the entry level accentuates the varied floor heights, creating a sense of structural progression that echoes throughout the custom wall-mounted joinery.

This strict rectilinearity serves as a deliberate contrast to the building’s radial structural walls, resulting in a softened entry experience to the private quarters. Enhanced by integrated glows that highlight the home's geometry, the design creates a feeling of vastness through a commitment to the essential. Meandering Light proves that the most profound luxuries are not found in ornament, but in the generous and intentional calibration of space and light.
