To-gather, Sengkang

Design is a catalyst for human interaction. In this HDB resale apartment, the traditional boundaries of a standard apartment were dissolved to prioritize the rituals of cooking and collective gathering. By removing a primary bedroom, we expanded the living volume to celebrate the unit’s rare, sweeping perimeter wall—introducing a secondary interior curve that mirrors and gathers the space.

This peripheral arc serves as both an expansive bench and a sculptural anchor, inspired by the weighted strokes of Chinese calligraphy. Shifting away from the conventional "sofa and coffee table" arrangement, the design offers a singular, fluid environment for conversation. A custom-made terrazzo table acts as a mobile centerpiece—a "vessel" that docks along the concave bay with a spontaneity that honors the Japanese concept of ichi-go ichi-e (a unique, unrepeatable moment).

The result is a multi-potential sanctuary—an unscripted canvas that invites the owner to accumulate both furnishings and memories. Through a commitment to structural clarity and a leap of faith in non-traditional domesticity, the space was transformed into a site of enduring hospitality. To-gather demonstrates how a single, bold gesture can define the shape of connection for years to come.
